I just saw a commercial for a new ziploc bag called zip 'n' steam. In this day and age I just cringe when I see a supposedly corporate entity touting a product that can simply be tossed in the garbage presumably to make my life better.
The SC Johnson 'a family company' company makes the ziploc bags and the thought of a new product designed to be added to our landfills frankly upsets me.
So, I did something about it and I hope you will to. I sent SC Johnson an email which I followed up with a phone call to their corporate hotline.
Here's what I wrote:
As a family company I think it is terribly irresponsible of you to perpetuate a disposable mentality when so much data suggests that our wasteful behavior is what is causing global warming. I understand you are a company that operates to make a profit but honestly the new ‘zip and steam’ commercials where you celebrate how simple they are to use and throw away seems woefully out of step with what is going on in the world today. Shame on you.
I encourage anyone and everyone to raise their voice when witness to marketing that is this irresponsible.
