We were recently featured in Palisade Magazine(PDF Article). But for an up close and personal feel you can find us at Cornerstone Pets (Yes, I realize it's a pet store but my good friend is the owner and he was gracious enough to agree to carry some of our hats. You know for when you are walking your dog in the beating sun.)

Cute Tee for your todler

DogteeAs I was browsing other like minded sites this morning (The Alternative Consumer) I came across a post featuring a really cute "Penguin" tee for kids.

My favorite though....is the Terrier tee.

But worry not animal lovers because they also have cats, owls, bunnys, gorillas, horses, a wolf and many other animals represented.

Check out Design Public to see them all.

Natural color dyes

Naturaldye_2Thinking of breathing new life into old fabric? Have a look here first.

Natural dyes from plant material gives you a variety of different ways to dye fabric the natural way.

Apparently though there are some plants that could be toxic so be sure to read up before you start your brew.

And happy dying!!

We were featured on "Plenty"!

We're very excited to have been featured yet again this time over at Plenty The World In Green! Please have a look.

Vegan Faux Leather

RubbertreeSorry for my sudden absence last week. I was hit pretty hard with the flu but I'm much better now thanks to plenty of rest.

So, to get back into the swing of things a bit I want to share some of secrets that go into the vegetable leather making process that is used to make our hats and bags.

To begin with Amazonian natives harvest a special sap from the Seringueira tree 'Hevea brasiliensis'. The white or yellow latex sap is collected in small vessels that spiral up the tree in a righthanded direction.

Trees are harvested when they reach 5-6 years old. Incisions are made just deep enough to tap the sap without harming the tree's growth. This process is known as rubber tapping and trees stop producing after 26-30 years of production. (Wikipedia)

Couro_vegetal_2Once the sap is collected it goes through a series of steps that we are not even allowed to witness. Yes it's that secret of a process. But the result is an amazing distressed faux leather material that is super durable and easy to care for. Enjoy!

The making of a recycled canvas bag

I'm in Brazil visiting the factory that makes our recycled canvas hats and bags and I thought I'd share the process of making one of our bags from beginning to end.

This first image is the canvas that the truckers use to protect their cargo. When it is no longer useful to the truckers it is washed and cut into patterns which eventually become our canvas bags and hats.

This next image shows one of the women in the factory cutting the canvas.

And finally this last one shows the canvas bag being sewn together.
